Beginning of Rivalry Week

I am going to post something on this blog every day this week. Because I care and because I can. Check in for the daily BYU smack and updates on the tailgate and the game:

But first I want to start this week with a simple, inspirational story about the love of a father for his son:

As most of you know, I hate BYU so much that it is bordering on the unhealthy. I have always understood that this hatred is the Ying to my Yang. The Bada to My Bing the Dizzle to my Fashizzle. But the other day it went to far and I made my son cry because of my hatred of BYU.

You see, I have several weird superstitions that I live by during football season: First, I wear red every day during rivalry week. Second, I NEVER wear the weeks opponent's colors the day before or the day of a game. Third, I NEVER wear blue on Friday. EVER! And that is just a few...

A couple of weeks ago my wife comes home with a bunch of shirts from Ian's school. North Park shirts for everyone, because we show our support for our kids not by helping them with their homework or volunteering, but by all of us wearing identical f-ing t-shirts on Fridays. Problem: They are blue.. and if you wear blue on Friday you look like this guy:

So, as you can imagine Ian was all excited for he and his Dad to wear the same shirt and really couldn't understand why I began ranting and raving about not wearing blue on Friday. His eyes teared up, his lip stuck out...

and for a minute I felt really bad. I looked into his eyes, and realized that I was imposing my beliefs on the little guy. It wasn't his fault that my prejudices had grown so completely out of whack. Just because Santa wears red doesn't mean everyone has to:

I told him I loved him, and that I was proud of him and he could wear anything he wanted to school. I got him in his coat and put his back pack on and sent him out the door. I felt great. I felt like the Father of the Year... and then I remembered there was one last piece of advice I needed to give him and just as he got on the bus I yelled:

You look like a freakin' moron and everyone is going to hate you:

When he stops crying he will realize I had no choice. I love him too much.

See you all at the game!!!!!

Go Utes!

Thursday night v. Oregon State

7:00 P.M. Start 10:30 - 11:00 wrap up.

How about Thursday night we all bring a picnic for your own clan and we leave the trailer at home? Get to the lot as early as we can and tailgate from some tailgates.

Hello does this thing work?

glad to have the blog back!

The Weber State Game

The next game is Weber State.

The only thing that I know about Weber State is that
a) Their website sucks... and has a tab where you can see the Wildcat's "National Ranking".
b) They are from Ogden
c) They beat... somebody, once, I think.
d) They hired our old coach, Ron McBride... famed for untimely penalties, being drunk on the sidelines and super recruiting. Why he isn't Utah State's coach I have no idea, but I truly do love this man. Welcome back 'Mac.
e) Apparently these losers won some national title in cheerleading stunts. Does anyone else get the feeling that they are 40 year old recovering crack addicts who had nothing better to do at 3 am then flip each other in the back yard?

Anyway, this has all the indications of a serious blowout and, thanks to the Popelka's we have a canopy again so beers on the veranda might be in order by half-time.

Here is the menu and the contributors. Feel free to throw your name in the mix:

Fletcher's are in for the kronski’s and beans.
Ginger will bring potato salad and sautéed onions and mushrooms.
Don is in for buns and chips.
Hopefully the Burggraf's can bring the grill.

We still need: condiments, appetizers, and anything else sausageonthebbqish.

Ginger says she will drop the trailer off with Karyn in the morning on Saturday and will probably get back to the spot about 1:30ish.

Anything else?

I'll try to keep up on the blog as much as possible.

First Post

Karyn asked me to get the blog up and rolling again... so here it is. You should all have permission to post on the blog (instructions to follow) and I have left the comments open to anyone, so if you pass the link around your friends and family can contribute.

I will put up the menu for each game, you can put up requests for tickets... or let people know if you have tickets, pictures are cool (Karyn offered to be staff photographer) etc. etc.

I'll be adding the theme song and other stuff so it'll be back up to speed quickly.
